What's new in the Prism updates
These free Prism 4 updates fix minor problems that have been reported with Prism 4.00, 4.01, and 4.02 for Windows and Prism 4.0a and 4.0b for Macintosh. The updates add several new features, including: new normality tests, more flexibility in formatting graphs, and new scripting commands. We encourage all Prism 4.0x users to update to the most current version.
Prism 4.03 (Windows) and 4.0c (Macintosh) fix a few dozen minor problems, and add some minor features:
- We've fixed a problem with the way Prism performs post tests following repeated-measures two-way ANOVA. Learn more.
- The Output tab of the nonlinear regression dialog now lets you choose to test the residuals for normality.
- A new keyboard shortcut (Windows: F9, Mac: Command-K) now recomputes simulated data (with new random error).
- A new keyboard shortcut (Windows: Shift-Ctrl-V, Mac: Shift-Command-V) brings up the Paste Special dialog.
- You can nudge survival curves to prevent overlap.
- We've fixed a bug in Friedman repeated-measures nonparametric one-way ANOVA that caused Prism to give incorrect results when some rows of data were excluded.
- Linear regression can now compute a prediction band when the line is forced through the origin.
- Improved initial values in nonlinear regression of dose-response curves.
- After using Duplicate family of sheets, you can rename data table and the related sheets will rename too.
Prism 4.02 and 4.01 (Windows) and Prism 4.0a (Macintosh) changes:
- If you make a two-grouping-variable bar graph using the "grouped" rather than the interleaved or stacked approach, Prism 3 labeled the clusters of bars along the X axis with a group label. Prism 4.02 offers a choice of label types in a drop down menu in the Format-Axis dialog.
- The ability to open Prism 1.0 for Windows files. We left this out of Prism 4 and were a little surprised to hear how many people still need to open Prism 1 files. (Windows only)
- Prism 4.0b for Mac runs faster than the previous 4.0a release.
- Prism 4.0b for Mac does a better job of supporting dual monitors.
- Prism 4.0b for Mac includes new support for Japanese and other fonts.
- New normality tests. We learned that the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test is not the best test (and Prism was calculating the test incorrectly in some cases), so we added two more normality tests: the Shapiro-Wilk test and the D'Agostino-Pearson test (which we recommend).
- You can include commas in your axis numbering when you make graphs with large numbers. In other words, ten thousand can be "10000" or "10,000".
- Better scripting. We've added new script commands to change graph and axis titles (and more).
- You can now choose where Prism saves template files (a new choice in File Locations tab of the Preferences dialog). This is helpful if you want to write-protect the Prism folder, since the default location is a folder within the Prism folder.
- If you fit data entered as mean, N and SD or SEM, Prism now weights by the SD values (as well as the N values). The results are now identical to the fit of individual replicates.
- Add random outliers when you use the "simulate data analysis".
- Specify the final size of the graph or layout when you export in PNG format.
- The file import dialog offers a choice to exclude values followed by an asterisk. Now values preceded by an asterisk are also excluded. This lets Prism import data from more programs.
- Export graphs or layouts in EMF (a fancier version of WMF) file format, and use the new ExportEMF command in scripts. (Windows only)
- Copy a graph or layout to the clipboard, and choose WMF format, EMF format or both (set this choice on the File & Printer tab of the Preferences dialog. (Windows only)
- The new Links command on the Edit menu allows you to view and edit a list of linked image and Excel files. (Windows only)
