Why are PZF files created by Prism 5 so much larger than PZF files created by Prism 4?

Prism files (PZF) tend to be larger when saved by Prism 5 than Prism 4 for the following reasons:

  • Prism 5 files are saved in the large (rather than compact) format by default. Change in Preferences dialog.
  • In order to let you hover a mouse over a point and see a tool tips, Prism must store extra information for each point or bar.
  • Backward file format compatibility. Sometimes, we need to duplicate an info when saving Prism 5 file. For example, we save custom ticks both in p4 and p5 formats (for p5 ticks are saved with formatting, for p4 - w/o).
  • Many Prism 5 analyses store analysis constants, which can be used for custom ticks or hooking.
  • Prism 4 uses small bitmaps for previews to show in the gallery. Prism 5 uses EMF vector previews, which are resizeable and have better resolution.
  • Equations used for nonlinear regression contain additional options.
  • Prism 5 has new features.
