When I export from a page layout, the tif file looks wierd (lacking symbols).

We have found some problems exporting large layouts to tiff format. Try making the layout smaller. Or export from the graph itself, rather than from the layout. Or use a different export format. This was fixed in version 4.01 (Windows) and 4.0b (Mac).
