Prism tip - Using Prism's graph cloning to start a new graph
You don't have to start from scratch when making a Prism graph. If you already have a graph that is similar to the one you want to make, and that is already formatted the way you want, you can use Prism's cloning tools to duplicate that graph settings so you can simply add new data.
Step 1 -- Select a graph to clone. From the Welcome (or new data table) dialog, choose to Clone from an open project, a recently-used project, or a Prism project that you have saved as an example or has been saved as a shared example.
If you want to clone a graph not on the dialog, open the file and then Clone from an open project.
Step 2 -- Choose what to keep and what to delete. By default, Prism will delete the Y data, and keep X values as well as row and column titles. Check options to change what is deleted. Also enter a name for the cloned table (which will propagate to analyses and graphs).
If you have a different number of replicates in your new project, use the second tab of the dialog to change the subcolumn format of your data table.
Step 3 - Click OK and Prism will create a new data table with the headings you've chose to keep.
Step 4 - Enter you new data and Prism will update the linked graph and keep all the formatting of your original example.
Cloning a graph with an embedded analysis results table clones the analysis as well.
- Cloning copies all the most important parts of a graph, including axis formatting, graph symbols, graph size and orientation, and colors. Cloning also duplicates regression lines and curves. Analysis results are only duplicated if part of an analysis results table is pasted onto the original graph as below. if you copy and paste a results table to your graph, when you clone it the linked analysis will update in the cloned graph with your new data.
Saving graphs as examples to clone
You don't have to do anything special to clone a graph from an open or recently used project. If you want to use the current graph as an example to clone in the future, save it as an example.
- From the File menu or Prism toolbar, choose Save Special ...Save as Example.
- Then enter a new name for the example file.
- Choose a category, or create a new one.
- Optionally add a description of the file that will show as a tool tip when you are selecting an example to clone.
