Prism tip - How can I learn to use Prism? Try the sample data tutorials.

If you have Prism, one of the best ways to learn how to use it is to use the sample data sets that are built into Prism. We call these sample data sets, but they are really more like guided examples - with sample data, instructions, and links to the Prism Help system.

To begin, from the Prism Welcome dialog, select the basic data table type you would like to make - XYColumnGroupedContingency, Survival, Parts of whole, Multiple variables, or Nested. However, instead of starting with an empty data table, choose from one of Prism's sample data sets. Each Prism sample data set is a real Prism file, complete with data appropriate for the analysis or curve fit you want to perform, along with step-by-step instructions to guide you.

Select the sample data for the analysis you want to explore, and then click the Create button at the bottom of the Prism Welcome dialog. You will get a Prism file, complete with data, a matching graph, and instructions.

The yellow floating note explains how the data are organized for this type of data table, the goals of the specific analysis, a short set of instructions, and a link to a longer, more-detailed guide.

Follow the Analysis instructions, and you will create a results sheet that you can explore.

You can click the Interpret button to read more about the analysis.

Since Prism automatically creates a graph for each data table, you also have a graph that you can format.

Since this is a real Prism file, you can use it to explore Prism in depth. Try using the Colors button to change your graph colors or color scheme.

The Format Graph dialog will help you modify your graphs. You can find the detailed instructions here.

Have fun exploring all of the sample data sets. After you work through one or two, you should be ready to try Prism with your own data.
