Prism and Mac OS Catalina (10.15)
Important information about Catalina
Mac OS 10.15 was released on October 7th, 2019. With this release, Apple no longer supports 32-bit applications. This means that you will no longer be able to launch some older versions of Prism. This recent update released by Apple also introduced a number of other performance-related issues in other older versions of Prism. Read below to find out how this update might affect your version of Prism.
Prism 8
Prism 8 for Mac is a 64-bit application, and will work on Mac OS Catalina. We have tested the most recent versions of Prism 8 with Mac OS Catalina to ensure its stability and performance. However, early versions of Prism 8 will lack some important updates and bug fixes associated with Mac OS Catalina. A number of important fixes were introduced in version 8.2.1. We will continue to monitor any potential issues with Prism 8 and release updates as necessary.
In order to ensure the best available compatibility of Prism 8 with Mac OS Catalina, please ensure that you are using the most recent version of Prism and the most recent release of Catalina (10.15.1 as of Oct 30, 2019).
Keep in mind that Prism 8 will open files created by earlier versions of Prism.
What if I have an older version of Prism?
We are constantly working to ensure that the performance and stability of our software stays up to date as the technology changes and systems are updated. We have already released a number of updates to ensure that the most recent versions of Prism 8 will continue to work on Mac OS Catalina, and will investigate any additional issues that may arise in the future. If you have an active subscription, you can update your older version of Prism to the most recent version of Prism from within the software. Follow these instructions for how to get updated to the most recent version of Prism.
If you have a perpetual license for a major version of Prism prior to Prism 8 (i.e. Prism 7 or Prism 6, etc.), you will need to purchase a license for Prism 8. In order to ensure that you always stay up-to-date with the most recent fixes and features, we strongly recommend purchasing a subscription, providing you with any and all future updates that we release so long as your subscription is active: even new major version of Prism!
If you haven't yet tried Prism 8, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial.
Specific information for issues with Mac OS Catalina in older versions of Prism are provided below:
Prism 7
Prism 7.0e for Mac is a 64-bit application, and will work on Mac OS Catalina. If you have a license to an earlier 7.0 release, please update to 7.0e (free).
While Prism 7.0e works under Catalina, we have not extensively tested it. Please update to the most recent version of Prism 8. Once you've updated, Prism 8 will be able to open any files that were created using Prism 7.
Prism 6 and earlier versions
Prism 6 for Mac and earlier versions are 32-bit applications, and WILL NOT WORK ON MAC OS CATALINA. Because of Apple's decision to no longer support 32-bit applications, it will not be possible to use these versions of Prism on Mac OS Catalina. Note that these older applications will continue to function on Mac OS Mojave (10.14) and earlier operating systems.
In order to ensure the best available compatibility of Prism with Mac OS Catalina, please update to the most recent version of Prism 8. Once you've updated, Prism 8 will be able to open any files that were created using Prism 6 (or any earlier version of Prism).
