Nothing happens when clicking "Sign In" for Prism Cloud
The problem
While using Prism on Windows, nothing happens when I click on Sign In for Prism Cloud
Why did this happen?
There are a few different ways that you can get to the Sign In window for Prism Cloud:
- Click the Prism Cloud icon in the toolbar, then click Sign In
- Open the File menu and select Prism Cloud > Sign In...
- Open Prism's preferences, switch to the Account tab, and in the Prism Cloud account section click Sign In
In all three cases, you should then see the Prism Cloud Sign In window:
However, in some situations when you click Sign In, nothing happens. The window above is not displayed and no alert appears. The most likely reason for this to occur is the absence of the rendering component Microsoft Edge WebView2 on your device. This component is used in a number of places within the Prism desktop application including the Prism Cloud Sign In window as well as Prism's Welcome Dialog.
This component is already pre-installed by Microsoft on most new Windows devices, and beginning with Prism 9.3 will be installed automatically during Prism installation if it is missing. You can find more information about Microsoft Edge WebView2 and Prism here.
What can I do to fix the issue?
First, start by checking that the component is installed on your computer. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and features, and then paste 'Microsoft Edge WebView2' into the search field:
If the component isn't installed, you'll need to install it. You can do this by going to the Microsoft Edge Webview2 page, downloading the Evergreen Bootstrapper, and then running the installer. Alternatively, you may choose to download the appropriate Evergreen Standalone Installer or a specific version of the WebView2 runtime (these are not recommended).
Another solution is to simply reinstall Prism. When the Prism installer runs, it will detect that the WebView2 component is missing from your device and will install it for you.
