Prism and 64 bit versions of Windows and Mac OSX.

Prism 9

Prism Mac is a 64-bit application, as current versions of MacOS are 64 bit.

Prism Windows is a 64-bit application.

Prism 8

Prism Mac is a 64-bit application, as current versions of MacOS are 64 bit.

Prism Windows comes with two installers, one for 32-bit Windows and one for 64-bit Windows. If you don't know what you have, just try one. It will present a clear message if you have a mismatch.

Prism 7

Prism Mac is a 64-bit application, as current versions of MacOS are 64 bit.

Prism Windows is a 32-bit application but runs fine on 64-bit Windows. Prism Windows automatically installs an appropriate edition - 64-bit or 32-bit - of an indexing addon that lets you search for Prism files using any term in titles, legends, notes, etc.

Prism 5 and 6

Prism Mac is a 32-bit application. It will run on either 64- or 32-bit machines.

Prism Windows is a 32-bit application but runs fine on 64-bit Windows. Prism Windows automatically installs an indexing addon that lets you search for Prism files using any term in titles, legends, notes, etc. This does not work with 64 bit Windows. If you set up Prism to create a log file, which is useful for troubleshooting, Prism up to 6.05 will run really slow under 64 bit Windows. So be sure to turn off logging, once there is no need for it. Note that there are two ways to turn on logging, so both must be turned off to stop Prism from being so sluggish. (This is fixed in 6.06)

Older programs

Prism 5.03 and InStat 3.1 include some fixes to work under 64 bit Windows, so be sure to update if you are using older releases.

  • Installing Prism 5 or InStat from a CD under 64 bit Windows may not work automatically. One workaround is to write us for a link to download the installer. If you want to use the CD, the trick is not to use the autostart. Cancel any dialog that comes up automatically. Instead, open the CD manually in Windows Explorer,  and double click install.exe to start the installer. Don't double-click setup.exe, a short program  that does nothing but launch install.exe. Setup.exe causes problems with autostart and 64-bit versions of Windows.

Object linking and embedding with Prism 6 or 7 using 64-bit Windows

If you run 32-bit Prism on 64-bit Windows, double-clicking on a Prism object embedded in Word or PowerPoint may not open Prism as expected. Fix using these steps:

  1. Go to the System control panel.
  2. Go to the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the button, Environmental Variables.
  4. Find the Path variable
  5. Add to the path, preceded by a semicolon: C:\Windows\SysWOW64
