Alert when installing Prism Windows: "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run."
In rare instances, the following error message may appear when you run Prism's .msi installer:
"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."
The reason this message appears seems to be caused by Windows, not by Prism. To fix this issue, there are a few alternative things that you can try:
Suggestion 1: Reboot Windows. This fixes a surprising amount of strange issues.
Suggestion 2: Install the latest Windows updates and run the installation file as administrator by Right-click on the installation file and select "Run as administrator" from the context.
Suggestion 3: Restart the Windows Installer service by following these steps:
- Press Windows key + R to open the run command
- Type services.msc and press Enter
- Right-click on "windows installer" and stop the service
- Right-click on "windows installer" again and start the service
- Try again to install the program
Suggestion 4: Run the Microsoft fix it tool. You can download it here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed
Suggestion 5: Install Prism in compatibility mode by following these steps:
- Right-click on the .msi file for the program and select "Properties"
- Select the "Compatibility" Tab
- Check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows 8 from the drop-down list
- Click "Apply" then click "OK"
- Try again to install the program
