Oversized Format Graph dialog box

There is a known issue on Prism Mac in which the Format graph dialog is not fully visible, and the part of the dialog with the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons appears under the Dock panel.

The recommended minimum display resolution for comfortable work in Prism is 1280x1024. However, unlike in previous versions, there is no restriction for the latest version of Prism to launch using screen resolutions below this recommended value. Prism will still launch, but it is possible that some of the dialogs will not quite fit the screen, or will appear with the controls at the bottom of the dialogs overlapped by the macOS Dock panel (assuming its default size and position).

This overlap issue happens when the effective resolution of the display is lower than what the dialog requires to fit on the screen. The result is that the dialog occupies the entire vertical space of the display, not accounting for the space required by the Dock panel. The result is that these two components overlap each other.

This issue is generally not a problem, but becomes an issue for "larger" Prism dialogs, specifically the "Format Graph" dialog, and the "New Graphs" tab in the Prism Preferences dialog.

For example, using a display resolution of 1024x768, the "OK" and "Cancel" buttons of these dialogs will be covered by the Dock panel (assuming its default position and size). Here's an example:

Workarounds:

  • Customize the Dock panel on your Mac. You can make it smaller or move it to the left or right side of the screen
  • While the dialog is open, press the Esc button on your keyboard as an alternative to the "Cancel" button from the Format Graph dialog, or press the Enter button on your keyboard to apply changes instead of the "OK" button from the dialog

To make the Dock panel smaller or to move it to the left or right side of the screen, open System Preferences. Select "Dock" from the list of icons, and then adjust the size of the Dock or select the positioning from the subsequent menu.

Alternatively, you can hover your mouse cursor over one of the vertical black lines in the Dock. While clicking and holding this line, drag your mouse up or down to increase or decrease the size/scale of the Dock, respectively.
