Limiting use of a Prism network license to a specified group of people.

It is possible to limit use of a Prism network license to a named group of users.

First, install the Prism network license.  (We no longer sell network licenses, so this faq is for legacy licenses only.)

Next, follow the steps below on the "server" that you have installed Prism onto.

CREATE USERS YOU WANT TO ALLOW TO ACCESS PRISM:

  1. Start menu -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools ->Computer Management.
  2. Open "Local Users and Groups" in the navigator's tree. Select "Users" folder.
  3. "Action" menu -> "New User". Enter name for the user and click "Create" button.
  4. Right-click on the newly created user in the list. Select "Set Password..." item.
  5. In the "Set Password for ..." dialog click Proceed.
  6. Enter the password for the user, confirm password and click OK.

Repeat steps 1-6 for each  user you want to access Prism in future.

SET ACCESS PERMISSIONS FOR PRISM'S FOLDER:

  1. Open Properties dialog for Prism's folder.
  2.  Switch to "Sharing" tab, select "Share this folder" radio button.
  3. Click "Permissions" button.
  4. Delete "Everyone" group from the list. Also delete all groups/users you do NOT want to access Prism.
  5. Click "Add..." button.
  6. In the "Select Users or Groups" dialog click "Advanced..." button. Then click "Find Now..." button.
  7. Select a user you want to access Prism (one of created at steps 1-7). Click OK (twice).
  8. Set access permissions for the user in the "Permissions for..." dialog. (probably set "Full Control". Click Apply.
  9. Switch to "Security" tab in the Prism's folder Properties dialog.
  10. Click "Advanced..." button at the bottom.
  11.  In the "Advanced Security Settings..." dialog UNCHECK "Inherit from parent the permissions entries..." checkbox.
  12.  Click "Copy" button in "Security" dialog.
  13.  Click OK in the "Advanced Security Settings..." dialog.
  14.  Remove all users you don't want to allow access to Prism from the list in the Properties dialog.
  15.  Click "Add..." button.
  16.  In the "Select Users or Groups" dialog click "Advanced..." button. Then click "Find Now..." button.
  17.  Select a user you want to access Prism (one of created at steps 1-7). Click OK (twice).
  18.  Set access permissions for the user in the "Permissions for..." dialog. (probably set "Full Control". Click Apply.
  19. Repeat steps 7-24 for EACH user you want to access Prism in future.

Now, anyone trying to launch Prism will be prompted for their name and password, and won't be able to use Prism unless they are on the list you created.
