Issues with pasting or importing Prism graphs into Canvas.
Windows
Canvas 11 and Prism 5.02 work great together (we haven't tried earlier versions). You can copy from Prism and paste into Canvas. Ungrouping works fine.
Mac
Canvas is no longer being created or supported for the Mac. We know of the following issues:
- If you copy and paste a graph (or layout) from Prism 4 Mac into Canvas 9, you cannot ungroup it in Canvas. We do not know why. However, if you export the graph from Prism as a PICT file and then import that into Canvas, you can ungroup just fine. Prism 5 does not create PICT files.
- If you copy and paste from Prism 5 into Canvas 9, everything looks fine until you go to export. If you used polygon symbols (traingles, squares or diamonds), somehow a line appears from each symbol to the upper left corner of the page. This does not happen when you use Canvas X, the last Mac release of Canvas.
- Importing Pict files made by Prism 4 leads to a mess (easily fixed). Canvas (9.0.4; haven't checked other versions) has an Attribute setting that lets you add arrowheads as a default to all lines of a certain type. Many parts of Prism graphs appear as lines to Canvas. If Canvas is set to draw arrowwheads by default, graphs imported or pasted from Prism will look very strange, with arrow heads (which you may not recognize as such) all over the place. To fix the problem, select the graph in Canvas, drop the Object menu and choose Attributes, go to Arrow tab, and choose no style. To prevent the problem, start a new (blank) Canvas project, drop the Object menu and choose Attributes, go to Arrow tab, and choose no style. Since the page is blank, the attributes setting is saved as a default for new pages.
- When you copy and paste into Canvas, Prism curves can look too thin. To avoid this issue, make them thicker in Prism.
- When you copy a graph or layout from Prism 5, Prism puts the picture on the clipboard in pdf format. It also puts a low resolution bit map on the clipboard to be used by older programs. After pasting, neither of this can be ungrouped by Canvas or any program.
