I'm trying to run Prism 5.00 (Windows)  under my company or institution's site license, and I get a message saying the "Licenses folder is write protected."

If you don't have admin rights to install software on your computer you may get this error. when you launch Prism.  Here is the fix:

  1. Make sure you have installed Prism 5 and that you are using the correct site license serial number.
  2. Have someone who does have admin rights log on (whoever installed Prism for you).
  3. Save this text file licenses.txt in the Prism 5 program folder. Typically this is C:\Program files\GraphPad\Prim5\
You should now be able to log on as a user (without admin rights) and run Prism without any problems.

If you still get the error message, you may have to edit the contents of that licenses.txt file. The file contains nothing except the path to a folder, which will hold one file. Prism must be able to write to that folder. You can use any folder you want.
