KNOWLEDGEBASE - ARTICLE #752

I am trying to install a demo of StatMate, InStat or Prism, but I get a notice that the program has expired.

30 days wasn't enough

The demos work for 30 days, and then expire. Also note that in addition to the 30 day limit, the demo version of Prism is also limited to being launched no more than 150 times.

If you have used your 30 days, and have now decided to purchase the software, we can extend the demo for 15 more days (InStat or StatMate only). Emal sales at graphpad.com  to request an extension. Be sure to mention which product and which platform (Windows or Mac) you are using.

The 'expired' message came the first time  the demo was used

If you are getting an expired message the first time you are using the demo, most likely someone else in your lab has already installed the demo in the past. You can still request an extension code, if that hasn't been used before.

Please check that the calendar on your computer is set properly. Setting the calendar may solve the issue.

If you are using a Mac, follow these four fixes, in order. Most likely the first or second fix below will solve the problem.

Mac Fix 1: Make sure you are logged in as an admin.

  • Open system Preferences from the Apple menu.
  • Select Accounts.
  • In the list of users in the Accounts window make sure the current user is selected (should be selected by default).
  • Click the Edit User button.
  • In the opened window (sheet) make sure that the check box "allow user to administer this computer" is checked.
  • If this checkbox is grayed out, you will need to log in as Administrator.

Mac Fix 2: Repair any damaged disk permissions.

  1. Launch Disk Utility located at: "[system disk]:Applications:Utilities:Disk Utility"
  2. Once inside the Disk Utility window, select your hard drive (not  the program CD or downloaded DMG 'drive').
  3. Go to the First Aid tab
  4. Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.

Mac Fix 3: Check that folder "[system disk]:Library:Application Support" is not write protected. To do this:

  • Find this folder select it, click Command-i to open folder Info dialog.
  • Select Sharing in the "Show " pop up menu.
  • Make sure Privileges are set to "Read and Write".

Mac Fix 4: Make sure path name does not include international characters

  • Make sure that the path to the Prism application and the path to the "[system disk]:Library:Application Support", does not contain any special symbols for example, Japanese characters in system disk name.
