How do I combine a column scatter plot and a box-and-whiskers plot on the same graph, side-by-side, for the same data?

This FAQ provides instructions for generating a graph that contains data represented both as scatter and as box and whisker plots.

Begin by creating a new Column table and graph that is formatted as a “Box and whiskers, vertical” graph:

Insert your data in duplicate in adjacent columns:

This is the graph that results from you inserting the data in duplicate:

With some simple formatting, the axes and labels were altered to produce this graph:

Double-click on one of the bars:

The “Format graph” box will appear.  Make the changes that are indicated by the numbers in this figure:

1: Open the “Appearance” menu

2: Select “Scatter dot plot”

3: Change the plot to “Mean”

4: Set a color for the symbols

 

When you apply the same changes to the other data sets on the graph, you will have created a graph very similar to this:

Prism also offers the ability to customize the spacing of the groups defined on the X axis.
