Graph tip - Using Magic to make several graphs look the same.

This example shows how to format several graphs to look the same using Prism Magic. It also shows how to use Prism's tools to resize graphs individually, and on a layout.

How to do it:

Making two or more graphs look the same is easy. Display a Gallery of all the graphs in a Prism file by clicking on the main Graphs title in the Prism Navigator.

Select the graphs you want to format by checking in the box next to the tile in the Gallery.

You can select several graphs and print, copy, export, or send to PowerPoint all at once.

Once you've selected the graphs you want to format, click on the Prism Magic button.

In the next dialog select the graph you want to match. This can be a graph from the same project, from another recently used project or a graph that you have saved as an example. You can save any graph as an example to use with Magic. Just use Save Special.

Click Next and Prism will show you a preview of how your graphs will change. Select the attributes of the example graph you want to apply Pick Origin and Appearance to make the graph the same size and shape. You also can change graph colors, fonts, axis ranges, etc.

Click OK to finalize the changes.

How to change each graph individually

Another way to make graphs the same size is to change the height and width of each graph manually. Double click on a graph axis to open the Format Axes dialog. In the Shape, Size, and Position of the Frame and Origin tab, you can set the graph dimensions.

Equalizing graphs on Layouts

If you've already got graphs on a layout, there is button in the Change section of the toolbar to Equalize the Scaling Factors of the graphs on the layout.

The Equalize command equalizes the percent change from graph to layout, it does not change the dimensions of the graph on the graph sheet. So graphs that have the same height and width in the graph section, have the same size plotting area in the layout (other objects on the graph sheet may make the overall graph larger or smaller, but the plotting area should be the same).

If two or more graphs are different sizes to start with, the Equalize command won't make them the same on a layout. The best approach is to go to each graph itself - double click on a graph axis to open the Format Axes dialog and then in the Frame and Origin tab set the desired height and width of each graph as explained above. When all are the same, the Equalize command on a Layout will make them the same size.
