Can't install Prism 5 with message about not enough free space.

We know of two situations where you can get a misleading message about not enough free space:

  • With Prism 5.00 installing on a network, you might see a nonsense message like this: "Setup requires at least 46375 KB of free space to install, but the selected drive has only  -1 KB available." Later releases of Prism 5 did not give this message. Write to us with your serial number, and we'll send you a newer installer.
  • With any release of Prism 5 for Windows. If your hard drive is huge, you might get a silly message like this: "Setup requires at least 47341KB of free space to install, but the selected drive only has 1546290216 KB available"

One way to bypass the latter problem is to upgrade to Prism 6, whose installer is smarter. If you want to use Prism 5, realize that this message comes from the installer not from Prism and that all the installer does is place some files in a folder. To bypass the problem, therefore, follow these steps:

  1. Install Prism 5.04 (the last release of Prism 5 windows) onto another computer with a smaller hard drive.
  2. After the installer is finished, Prism will launch as ask you to activate Prism for that computer. Cancel out of this.
  3. Locate the Prism folder on the hard drive.
  4. Via network or thumb drive, move those files onto the hard drive of the new computer (with the big hard drive) in the same place.
  5. Double click on Prism.exe to launch Prism and start the activation process.
  6. Right click on Prism.exe to place it on the start menu. You can also drag onto your desktop.
