Bug: When bar graphs are exported or printed from a layout, some bars export as black even when they should have other colors.

This bug occurs with Prism 5 WIndows (5.00 to 5.04). The bug does not affect Prism Mac.

It only affects printing and exporting of layouts. Exporting graphs directly works fine. When printing and when exporting all formats except WMF, some bars can get exported as solid black.

Why all formats except WMF? For all other formats, Prism first creates a temporary EMF file, and then converts that to whatever format you requested. When there are three or more bars on the graph, the first one can get rendered in black when Prism makes the EMF file. It then stays black when Prism converts that temporary EMF to other formats.

Alternative workarounds. Any of these approaches will bypass the problem:

  • Export from the graph section, rather than from a layout. Exporting and printing graphs works fine. You could export each graph separately, and then assemble the layout in another program.
  • Export the layout in WMF format. Unlike every other format, Prism generates WMF directly without first making a temporary EMF file. That is why WMF is the only format that bypasses this bug. You could then use some other graphic program to convert the WMF file to whatever format your journal wants.
  • Export each graph as a separate graphic file. Then use Insert..Import Picture to place these graphs onto the layout (as pictures, not as Prism graphs) .
  • Export the layout using Prism Mac, which does not have this problem.
