Bug: The Format Axis dialog shows the wrong default value for the minimum axis range, or for some fields in the Format Additional Ticks and Grids dialog.
This is a bug in all releases of Prism 5 Mac (but not Windows).
The problem happens when you follow these steps:
- Bring up the Format Axis dialog, and click in either the minimum or maximum range field.
- Either hit the Return key to close the dialog, or click on another tab in the dialog before closing the dialog.
Everything works fine on the axis you were editing. You get the axis settings you want. The bug shows up when you go to the Format Axis dialog to edit another graph. The defaults on that dialog, of course, should be the current setting for whatever axis you are editing. Instead, the default for this second graph will be whatever you entered for the first graph in step 1 above.
It is easy to fix the problem. Double click on the axis and change its range.
It is also easy to prevent the problem from occurring. The trick is to always exit the dialog with the OK button rather than the Enter key, and to avoid switching among tabs of the Format Axis dialog. You can go directly to the tab you want by double clicking on a particular axis, or by choosing the appropriate command from the Change menu. After making all the changes you want for that axis, click OK with the mouse. The problem can only occur when you either leave the dialog by pressing the Enter key, or when you make changes on two or more tabs before exiting the dialog.
A similar problem occurs in the Format Additional Ticks and Grids dialog. Avoid that problem by closing that dialog by clicking the OK button rather than pressing the Return key.
