Before buying the network version of Prism or InStat, I want to test GraphPad's metering scheme on my network.
** Note: We no longer sell network licenses for GraphPad Prism. This information is for legacy licenses.
Current versions of Prism and InStat (Windows or Mac) let you test the network metering on a network. Follow these steps:
- Install the Prism or InStat demo onto a network server. Note that we use the term "server" to mean any hard drive that is shared on the network. It doesn't have to be an actual server. Prism and InStat don't ever run on this server. Rather they load from the server's hard drive onto the work station and run on each individual work station computer.
- If using the Mac version of Prism or InStat, set the permission of the application file to read-only (rather than read-write, which is the default).
- Create a short cut on each computer's desktop (or start menu) to launch Prism or InStat from the server.
- Double-click on an icon from one workstation to launch Prism or InStat.
- Double-click from a second computer to launch Prism or InStat again.
- The Prism demo allows only two concurrent users. Double-click from a third computer. Since the demo version is set up to emulate a two-user network, you will see an error message when you try to launch Prism the third time. This will let you test that the metering system works on your network. When you buy a Prism network, you can buy licenses for as many simulataneous users as you want. With InStat there is not a limit on a network demo.
