My Prism file is too big. How can I move some sheets to a different file?

GraphPad Prism files hold one project, which may include different numbers of sheets of various kinds. However, there are limits to the number of data sheets you can put in a single file.

If you need to move sheets from one project to another, Prism offers several ways to do so.

Approach 1. Save Family as

Starting from any sheet, drop the File menu, choose Save Special and then choose Save Family As, and pick a file name. Only the current sheet, and linked sheets (the family) are saved.

Approach 2. Copy a graph with its family

  1. Start from any graph, and copy it to the clipboard (Edit..Copy).
  2. Go to another file
  3. Go to a layout (probably best to create a new layout sheet).
  4. Choose paste.
  5. Prism will ask how to paste (picture only, link, or merge in the graph and sheets). Choose the option to merge. That will copy the graph and all data and results and info sheets needed to make that graph.
  6. Repeat as needed with other graphs.
  7. Go back to the original file and delete the sheets you no longer need in that file.

Approach 3. Duplicate and purge

One approach is to save the file with a new name. Then edit each copy, removing sheets you don't want in that copy.

Approach 4. Share family (Mac only)

Starting from any sheet, drop the File menu, choose Share > Share family and then select one of the available options. Only the current sheet, and linked sheets (the family) will be separated from the original large file.
