When creating a diagnostic test, an ROC curve helps you decide where to draw the line between 'normal' and 'not normal'. For every possible boundary between 'normal' and 'abnormal', the ROC plot shows the tradeoff between sensitivity (ability to detect disease) and specificity (ability to detect lack of disease).
