Post tests following one-way ANOVA use a strict threshold for significance, so that the 5% significance level applies to the entire family of comparisons, rather than to any one particular comparison. But some statisticians argue that if you focus on just a few sceintifically sensible 'planned' comparisons, it is OK to not correct for multiple comparisons. More.

The Economist (weekly general news magazine) has a great short article showing the folly of extrapolation. They graph the maximum number of blades available on a disposable shaver (a five blade shaver was recently introduced) vs. year, fit the data to various models, and so predict what future shavers will be like!
